Dental Technician

The role of Dental Technicians is an important role to support the delivery of high-quality dental prosthesis’s, this involves the fabrication of crowns, bridges, dentures and other appliances to improve a patient’s oral health and aesthetics. Our goal is to create prosthetic appliances that provide function and form.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing and fabricating dentures.
- Fabrication of mouth guards and retainers.
- Correcting irregularities in a patient’s dentition using removable or permanent dental appliances.
Role competencies
- Manual dexterity and good hand – eye coordination.
- Design skills and creativity.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
- Understanding the manufacturing techniques of various materials.
- Excellent communication skills
- Working knowledge of relevant software modelling tools.
- Attention to detail.
- Understanding of the patient’s anatomy.
Role Experience Requirements
- GDC registration
- A strong foundation in crown and bridge or prosthetic work is required.
- Previous experience working in a dental laboratory setting is essential.
- Mid-level dental technicians will require three to five years of experience.
- Upper-level dental technicians will require five to eight years of experience.
- High-level dental technicians will need to construct dental appliances for both tissue borne and implant restorations obtaining a high level aesthetic result and function.
Education and Training Requirements
- Dental technicians must have at least a foundation degree in dental technology, which is approved by the General Dental Council.
- Other training requirements include level 3 dental technician course in dental technology.
- GDC registration has previously been awarded under a grandfather clause at the introduction of GDC registration for dental care professionals.
